Massachusetts Inns Are A hard Habit to Break

I have a friend who often visits New England states like Massachusetts twice a year, and when she does, she prefers checking into Massachusetts Inns.

I once asked her why she was so fascinated with New England and particularly why she preferred a Vermont Bed and Breakfast over a traditional hotel.

“Look at it this way,” she replied, “visiting a really nice bed and breakfast is like having your own vacation cottage-only you don’t have to maintain it yourself.”

When she put it that way, I could see why people would gravitate towards the idyllic and scenic countrysides found in places like Massachusetts.

I think nearly every harried city inhabitant should endeavor to visit at least one New England village or town at once in their lives. How else would they know the peace that can be had in a picturesque country setting?

If they were anything like my friend, they’d also enjoy the wondrous countryside of New England. They may even endeavor to visit towns in Connecticut or Rhode Island for future vacations. The Connecticut Inns are beautiful in the fall months!

Surely, the infectious energy of New England villages coupled with the comfort and coziness of   high quality B&B’s could make anyone a habitual tourist.  Thankfully, becoming a frequent New England visitor won’t be a habit you’ll ever have to break if you don’t want to.

A brief history of bedding

The soft and cushioned bedding of today wasn’t always like this. Early man slept on bare ground. Before long, he began to make soft bedding that consisted mainly of leaves and animal skin. The leaves provided a cool surface for him to lie on.

But sleeping on the ground had its disadvantages. You were more susceptible to being bitten by snakes and insects. Man realized that he would have to elevate the bed a few inches off the ground. Wooden sticks and branches were used to create bed posts, and rope was used to hold the mattress. The rope mattress had to be regularly tightened to deal with the sag that soon developed.

Later civilizations like the Greeks and Egyptians unleashed their extravagant artistry on the beds. Bed posts were now more ornate, and boasted of elaborate head boards.

In 1871, steel coil spring mattresses were introduced.  Until then the choice of filler for bedding had been raw cotton.

Since then, research has led to the development of bedding that is ergonomically designed to support the spine and neck. Designs evolved from uninspiring patterns to cover a virtually limitless range of designs, including abstract prints, animal print bedding and bird designs, sports motifs, flowers and foliage as well as camouflage bedding. You can also have custom bedding that’s designed exclusively for you that reflects your tastes. These also make great gifts that are sure to be appreciated.

Through all these design changes, the structure of the bedding has evolved for maximum support and comfort.

Technical writing

It’s the new fallback for English majors who couldn’t write that best seller, or journalism majors who couldn’t cut it at the magazine of their dreams.  There are several forms of technical writing, but the lowliest and most common I come across in want ads, have to do with translating “tech-speak.”

To break it down, there are a lot of people out there who are very knowledgeable in whatever field they are in, be it medical technology or, say, multi spindle screw machines.  They’re problem is that either by some natural quirk in their brains or, more likely, shortcoming in the public school systems, they never learned how to translate that knowledge onto paper in every day English with perfect grammar that your average drone can understand.

Take the multi spindle machines, or whatever they’re called, for example.  The techs would give the technical writer a bunch of manuals full of technical terms upon technical terms-like automatic lathe and CNC turning centers, turning operations, boring, operations and so on-with misspelled words, comma splices, and, in some cases, even incomplete sentences, and so on.

The technical writer would interpret those technical terms into every day speech.  For instance the “turning operation” is the part of the sequence where the metal bar is shaped.  Then he or she would pretty much copy the useable parts, just using an active voice in place of the passive voice the techs had used (generally, because they think it makes them seem smarter), and tidying up the horrendous punctuation and grammar.
