How to Get in to a Good Culinary Arts Program

When culinary schools first opened it was easy to get into a good program. You just needed to express an interest, pay the tuition and go to the classes. However, that’s not the case with culinary schools today. The interest in these programs has grown so much (undoubtedly due in part to the rise of celebrity chefs in the industry) that there is now a lot of competition to get into a good school.

Here are some tips to help you get into a great Culinary Arts Program:

  • Narrow down your search. You do better with applications if you focus on just a few of them. Consider the location of the school (the climate of a Pennsylvania Culinary School will be different than at Western Culinary Institute). Consider the specific programs offered. And consider the cost.
  • Get some experience. Work at a local restaurant. Even volunteering at a soup kitchen can count towards boosting your application to the top.
  • Get writing help with your application. You shouldn’t just dash off a letter of interest and be done. Get a professional writer to edit what you’ve written so that it sounds the way that it should.

The real key to getting into a good program is to find the one that interests you and then be persistent. There’s competition out there for those classes but there’s no reason that you can’t beat it out if you try.
