There are many types of leave from work that an employee may choose or be forced to take. Some are fairly obvious, but some are not quite as obvious as the others.

Vacation would be one of the obvious ones. Most employers will allow you to save up vacation time, usually depending upon how long you have worked for them, and redeem it so you can continue to get paid while you take some earned time off.

Another type of leave would be sick leave. Often times called sick days, these typically accrue in much the same way that vacation days do. Employees are still paid if they are too sick to come to work. There are, however, a stipulated number of days an employee may take, so when they run out they run out.

That brings us to one of the types of leaves that is not as obvious. And if you don’t have long term disability insurance you might be in trouble with this one! That’s because disability insurance companies are the only ones that will continue to pay you if you have gone beyond the number of sick days you are allowed or have earned but still are too sick to work. This is a type of leave that you don’t want to take if you don’t have disability insurance!

From a cosmetic dentist, comfortable dental care can be really expensive. Even a simple procedure like routine dental whitening can run up quite a bill.  There are many reasons for this.  For one thing, the technology to do these procedures is always changing, and therefore relatively new.  The equipment and materials, such as sedatives and surgical tools, are expensive.  Training to be able to perform advanced procedures flawlessly is very expensive, and so competitive dentists and oral surgeons command high salaries. 

Finally, most cosmetic dentistry is considered inessential, and is therefore entirely privately funded-that means the patients pay for it all.  Some people tried to talk me out of having it done myself.  I’m twenty-one years old and I work as a janitor, so I had to save up for over a year.  But having crooked teeth isn’t fun. 

I figured I’d get around to having it corrected eventually, so why not get it done early?  Once you get your dental issues straightened out, your mouth and smile look normal for the rest of your life.  So I thought that the sooner I do it, the more years I have with a nice smile.  Frankly, I doubt I would have done anything more lasting or worthwhile with the money if I hadn’t spent it on the dentistry.

On a recent trip to LA for a bachelor party my husband ran into a little bit of trouble which resulted in me getting a 4 am phone call with a desperate plea to run a few thousand dollars down to him so he could get out of jail.  Since I didn’t have that kind of money laying around, or even in the bank but for that matter, I wasn’t sure where he expected me to get the cash.  For about two seconds I thought of just leaving him there but realized if he lost his job for being in jail we’d be in some serious financial trouble. I live a nocturnal life.  This is not because I have a sleeping problem but because I work in a bar and I am happy doing this and I earn more compared to working in the morning.

It has been about 5 years since I first had this job.  Many people I know complained about getting sick when they work at night and sleep at day.  But for me, I think this is just about personal management.

Since I sleep in the morning, I make sure that my bedroom has the best bed and I have carefully selected mine from the many beds available in the store.  My bedding is of very comfortable material and I enclose the entire room with curtains to darken it.

In my apartment’s living room, I have a big couch which also serves as daybed just in case I want to watch television when I arrive from work and just fall asleep while watching.

During these times when the economy is very bad and people jobs are being lost, people do not have much choice anymore.  Should they find a job that requires them to work at night, they can really manage like I have had.
